Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The article must be submitted together with a cover letter addressed to the Editorial Committee of the journal, in which the author declares that the content of the article is original and unpublished and has not been published in another scientific journal, nor has it been or will be submitted to another journal for publication during the evaluation and acceptance process in the journal (Letter of presentation of articles format).
  • The article is presented in Microsoft Word, A4 or letter size, 1.5 line spacing, one column, symmetrical margins of 2,5 cm on all four sides using 12 points Arial fonts, máximum 20 pages including figures, tables and references.
  • The tittle, abstract and key words of the article should be written in Spanish and English.
  • The graphic material must be in TIF or PDF (editable) format with a mínimum resolution of 300ppi as a separate and numbered file(s)
  • The references included in the article should be according to the six edition of the Publications Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA).
  • The article meets the style and bibliographic requirements outlines in the Guidelines for the Presentation of Articles, which can be found below.

Author Guidelines

GUIDELINES FOR THE PRESENTATION OF ARTICLES

The Arkitekturax Visión FUA is an academic publication edited jointly by the Faculty of Architecture and the Research Department of the Fundación Universidad de América, in Bogotá, Colombia. Its objective is to promote the progress of science through publishing research articles, original and unpublished, related to three thematic axes: architecture, city and environment.

In terms of architecture, the following items will be included: conservation, restoration and reuse of heritage; theory, history and critic of design; natural lighting, energy self-sufficiency and bioclimatic; strategic management and utilization of rainwater; materials, techniques and technologies for contemporary construction; resilience, sustainability and analysis of the life cycle of the architectural object; dismantling, recycling and reuse of materials at the end of the life cycle of the building, among other related topics.

As regards the city, articles on: urban bioclimatic, wind regulation, and control of heat islands; resilience to floods and other catastrophic events caused by climate change; green infrastructure and blue urbanism; sustainable and alternative mobility; urban economy, creative cities and cultural districts; smart cities, creative watersheds and production clusters; urban sociology, spatial exclusion, urban corruption, migration, insecurity and urban fragmentation, among other related topics.

Finally, the concept of environment will be transversal and will extend to geographical and territorial aspects, of ecosystems, biodiversity and natural resources, in addition to landscape architecture, urban environmental quality, air and noise pollution, urban water management, urban tree planting, urban flora and fauna, among other related topics.

The Arkitekturax Visión FUA it's aimed at researchers, professionals, teachers and students in the fields of architecture, landscaping, urban design, urban planning and territorial planning.

The journal accepts unpublished research papers, reflective essays and review articles written in English or Spanish. To be considered for publication manuscripts must be original with respect to concept, content, and writing; they cannot be on evaluation by other journals or editorials simultaneously; and they should be between 3000 and 8000 words in length.

Standard scientific research paper components:

i) Title; ii) Author(s): Names and surnames, academic background, institutional affiliation and e-mail address; iii) Abstract: written in the same language of the article, 150 words or less; iv) Keywords: six terms or less not included in the title; v) Introduction; vi) Methods; vii) Results; viii) Conclusions; ix) Reference: only the documents quoted in the text must appear in accordance to the APA style (www.apastyle.org). Citation system: APA style. Format file: “.docx”.

Figures and tables.

Images, photographs, drawings, designs and graphic representations of any species, as well as tables must: i) be explicitly mentioned in the text; ii) be included in the appropriate place of the article; iii) be numbered in the order of appearance (for example: Figure 1. - Table 1.); iv) to have a clear title; v) cite the source according to the APA standards; and vi) be sent separately in JPG or TIFF format with 300 DPI resolution (if are figures) and in Exel (if are tables). Only original images will be accepted and published. Otherwise, written authorization must be signed by its legitimate owners.

Review process for papers.

First moment: The articles received will be reviewed by the Editor, who will verify that they comply with the requirements established by the journal. In addition, the editorial team of the journal will verify the originality of the articles through specialized software. In case of finding similarities that reveal that the work was already published or has problems in the citation of the sources, the contact author will be informed, and requesting the revision of the article. Second moment: the articles approved by the Editor will be sent to one or more members of the Editorial or Scientific Committee, who will verify their originality, pertinence and adjustment to the issues of the journal. Third moment: finally, articles will be submitted to the evaluation process by two (2) academic peers external to the institution that publishes the Journal, under the modality of double blind mode, and according to the following criteria: a) correct structure of the article; B) validity and relevance of the topic; C) clarity of text and argumentation; D) quality of citations and references; E) contributions in the disciplinary field. Review period: The final decision of Editorial Board, whether it is to accept the article as submitted, to return it to the author(s) for revision, or to reject it, will be notified to the author(s) in six months or less since the time of submission. The people, who participate in the evaluation process, will remain in strict anonymity. Copyright and Permissions: the author(s) of an approved manuscript are required to sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement, in which the journal is thereby authorized to publish the paper in printed and electronics forms. Nevertheless, the journal allows the author(s) to retain publishing rights without restrictions.

Ethical considerations:

The  Arkitekturax Visión FUA does not accept inappropriate use of sources, the invention of data or the manipulation of images. Inappropriate use of sources includes copying of text, ideas, images or data from other sources, even of the own writings or articles published in other languages, when the original source is not cited. Texts taken literally from other sources should be intro quotation marks, citing the original source. If inappropriate use of sources is detected during the review process, the article will be rejected; if it is detected, after its publication, the article will be removed from all platforms or bibliographic indexes in which it is published.

Submission of articles:

The article must be submitted together with a cover letter addressed to the Editorial Committee of the journal, in which the author declares that the content of the article is original and unpublished and has not been published in another scientific journal, nor has it been or will be submitted to another journal for publication during the evaluation and acceptance process in the journal (Letter of presentation of articles format). Authors should submit their documents through the OJS platform entering the Portal de Revistas of the Fundación Universidad de América https://revistas.uamerica.edu.co.  

The journal is open Access, does not charge processing fees and article editing.

Transfer of rights and diffusion of published material:

The authors must sign the Copyright License Agreement before publication of the article. This document authorizes the editorial team of the Arkitekturax Visión FUA to spread the article it through the media considered relevant, whether printed or electronic. To this end, the authors must send the Copyright License Agreement duly signed through the OJS platform, entering the Portal de Revistas of the Fundación Universidad de América https://revistas.uamerica.edu.co.

Creative Commons License:

The Arkitekturax Visión FUA makes use of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 international license; thus, the articles of the journal are freely distributed and published, as long as the authorship is recognized and the text is not modified.

Ethical declaration and good editorial practices:

The editorial team of the  Arkitekturax Visión FUA, committed to the scientific community, guarantees the ethics and quality of published articles. The editorial practices of the journal have as reference the code of conduct and good practices that the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) defines for editors of scientific journals, as well as by the ethical and editorial standards established in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Sixth Edition (APA).

All parties involved in the publication of Arkitekturax Visión FUA (editor, committees, authors and peer reviewers) must accept and respect the ethical principles expressed in this document.

The  Arkitekturax Visión FUA is permanently receiving submissions.
