Route: Reintreptation of Islander Architecture in the Ecocultural Touristic Center of Providence Island, Colomia
Abstract
Urban landscapes offer particular conditions for rebuilding cities in extreme situations: the supply of water or its absence, the vegetation or furniture influence the use of a city under emergency. In these cases, spatial planning transcends reconstruction tasks; therefore, settlement issues through physical, economic, social, and environmental identification require integration.
The 13th of november 2023 a hurricane hit Providence Island. The consequences affected the infrastructure and the economy, represented primarily by tourism.
This document reinterprets features of the island’s traditional architecture and
applies them to urban and constructive eco-cultural tourism aimed at reactivating
the economy of Providence, Colombia.
