Elements in the city of Cuernavaca, Morelos, that promote social segregation
Abstract
According to the perception of urban planner Kevin Lynch in his book The image of the city, this article points out the elements of the urban environment that reproduce social segregation in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico. He recognizes city components such as nodes, borders, landmarks, roads, and neighborhoods, capable of materializing symbols and marking a separation and imaginary or real limits as a social identity. The research is applied in the most populated neighborhood of Cuernavaca, the Antonio Barona Rojas, via three dimensions of analysis: territorial, temporal, and psychosocial. This study allows observing how the city is perceived through the eyes of its inhabitants, how they represent it, recognize, and identify the limits of their neighborhoods.
