Revitalization of the Historic Centre of Sogamoso: Intervention Propousal of City Blocks Accounted for in Santa Ana, Mochacá and Santa Bárbara

Abstract

As the most relevant place for the development of the Chibcha civilization, Sogamoso stood out for its location where solar projections originate the solstice. After the arrival of the Spaniards, the city transformed: it was urbanized through a checkerboard design, later altered by local growth and industry, giving rise to a dispersed morphology, unconsolidated areas, or unoccupied and deteriorated areas than became strategic potentialities for work. The change affected the historic center, and the zonal topography contributed to the deterioration. This article aims to reformulate Sogamoso as the capital of the province of Sugamuxy and tourist ring, to strengthen the municipality in the region and the country, to consolidate the different urban structures, to provide the historic center with new dynamics of public space, and to grant it a place within the collective memory of the population.
