Simulation model as a tool for library services improvement

Abstract

Library services represent one of the main products offered by an educational institution. These seek to provide users with resources for accessing information. In this paper, we present the case of a fixed capacity library that faces an increasing number of users each academic period. The objective of the research was to identify critical processes to generate strategies aimed at improving the service. To do this, a simulation model was developed in the FlexSim software after characterizing the system parameters. After analyzing results, the experiments show that, facing a higher demand, the resources offered by the library will be overused. Also increasing up to four times the number of system withdrawals.
